Ohio Colored State Convention.

Our Colored Brethren Disposed to Kick in the Traces.

CINCINNATI, August 23.-The -- The State Convention of colored men organized at Chillicothe, to-day, with the following officers: President, John Booker, Columbus; Vice-Presidents, Presidents George Field, Toledo; John Minor, Portsmouth, Gabriel Jones, Gallipolis; E. C. Jackson, Xenia; Marshal Jackson, Springfield; W. H. Harrison, Cincinnati; C. E. Bell, Athens; John Robinson, Ironton; C. B. Jones, Urbana; H. Lall, Lancaster; J. S. Jean, Chillicothe; J. B. McClellan, Jackson. Secretary, C. S. Maxwell, Xenia; Assistant Secretary, Frank Woodson, Portsmouth.

Mr. Booker, on taking the chair said that he regarded it unfortunate for them that the party which made them voters might feel that it had a right to expect their co-operation. He spoke of the party "to which they belong," and Peter H. Clark corrected him suggesting the words "of "the party to which we are attached." About one hundred delegates from various parts of the State were present.

CINCINNATI, August 23. - Peter H. Clarke, a colored man of this city, made a speech to the colored men of the Chillicothe, Ohio, in which he charged that the colored men were ignored in all the northwest in the bestowal of the f federal offices and in the principal offices in Ohio in labor or public works he was also ignored. He said that the demands of the colored men were expressed in the Philadelphia platform last year, but that that platform had not been observed, and he thought now was the time to claim redress.

At the Convention of colored people to-day day at Chillicothe, the Committee on resolutions reported the preamble, first quoting the promise to them in the Philadelphia platform of last year, and charging that this promise had been disregarded, and after a further recital of their grievances, reported the following resolutions which were adopted:

Resolved, That we, the colored voters of the State of Ohio, in Convention assembled, do protest against the unjust discrimination toward us by the Republicans of the party we aid in securing official positions.

[PAGE 03]
Resolved, That the colored voters of this State do not consider themselves under eternal obligations to a party which favors us as a class only in proportion as it is driven by its own necessity.

Resolved, That the colored men of the State are h hereby urged to refrain from unconditionally pledging themselves to nominees of their local conventions and that they use their best discrimination in determining for themselves in each locality whom to vote for, or whether to vote at all.

An additional resolution provides for the appointment of a Central Executive Committee of three, to call another convention when occasion required.
