The Tennessee negroes held a convention in Nashville recently, at which they did a great deal of talking, , "resoluting," &c. It is difficult, from the reports of the proceedings, to state the exact object of the convention, but it seems principly to have been to demand that the Tennessee legislature enact a civil rights law similar to the one recently declared unconstitutional by the United States Supreme Court. The negroes are dissatisfied with the social distinction made between them and the whites but they ought to have enough sense enough to know that no amount of legislation can effect the change they desire. If it ever comes, it will be when they, as a race, have become rich and educated. They must work out their own destiny, but can't accomplish anything by holding conventions and passing resolutions.
