THE COLORED EDITORS. -- Interview With Professor Murray as to Presidential Preferences. LOUISVILLE, Aug. 9. -- The National Colored Press association met here this afternoon with some of the leading colored newspapers representatives of the country present. In conversation with a reporter Professor Murray, editor of the St Louis Advance, said: "As between the two leading candidates for the presidency on the republican ticket, I think the majority of the colored race prefer Sherman. It would be a great political mistake to nominate Blaine again but I fear the party will fall into it. As far as I am concerned I will favor the nomination of Sherman, and if Blaine is nominated it will be a very serious question as to whether I will support him or Cleveland. My present inclination is to vote for the latter, although I have always been a republican. Mr. Cleveland is certainly a fairer and better man for the colored race than Mr. Blaine and he has shown it by his official actions. His fight for Matthews won him laurels, and other matters have shown his sentiments in regard to us. It would be decidedly better for the colored race if they were more divided politically than following blindly wherever they are led. The idea of Blaine and Ingalls that a colored man cannot be a democrat without being a monstrosity is being strongly condemned by progressive men of our race. You will find that in the eastern states leading negroes think as I do on political questions and that it is in those states that votes count." Mr. Dan A. Rudd, editor of the American Catholic Tribune of Cincinnati, expressed somewhat similar views in regard to Blaine. He strongly favors the nomination of Sherman.
