NEGROES IN CONFERENCE The Annual Meeting at Hampton Draws a Big Attendance. Newport News, July 20. - There are over 200 delegates in attendance on the annual session of the Hampton Negro Conference at the Hampton Industrial and Normal Institute. The conference is made up of prominent colored leaders from all sections of the country. The attendance at this convention is a representative one. The committee reports took up the greater part of the day. The one from the business and labor committee was received with applause. It denounces the action of the union organizations in freezing out colored labor and appeals to the negro to study the labor movement with a view to effecting organizations. Collis P. Huntington was commended for his actions in refusing to draw the color line in his immense shipbuilding plant here. The committee for the next year were appointed, after which several papers were read by delegates. Among the papers were these: "The Burden of the [unclear]Bleentest[/unclear] Negro Woman," Lucy C. Laney, Augusta; "The Place of the Race Consciousness in the Life of the People," Marta D. Baldwin, Cambridge, Mass; "The African in the Aryan World," Prof. Kelley Miller, Howard University, Washington. The conference will adjourn tomorrow night.
