An Explanation and Correction. To the Editors of the Appeal: BROWNSVILLE, March 2.--Please do me the kindness to publish the following: In the speech delivered on Friday, February 29th, before the State Convention of Colored Men, I am reported as having said: "We will demand our political and civil rights with a shotgun." I used no such expression. Speaking of the moral status of the colored people, among other things I said: "Let fathers and brothers of colored women resent an insult or injury done their daughters and sisters, coming from whatever source, if need be, with a shotgun." Politically I am opposed to the shotgun policy. We ask no better medium through which to secure our political and civil rights than the ballot-box. We believe by a proper wield of the ballot, not the shotgun, our political and civil rights will be secured, and to this end we shall labor. S.A. A. M'ALWEE
