THE DALLAS COLORED CONVENTION The late convention of the colored people of Texas held in Dallas, to take steps to prevent colored emigration to northern states and territories, adjourned on the 17th after a very harmonious and highly important session. Resolutions were adopted strongly disapproving of the northern exodus, and advising the colored people to remain in a climate more congenial to their natures and better calculated to promote their future welfare. It was also determined to organize a company under the laws of the state, to be known as the Texas Farm and Emigration Company, with an authorized capital of $ 100,000, 000, for the purpose of buying lands and founding colonies in northwest Texas. While this convention was in session there arrived in Dallas a train of nineteen wagons with one hundred and fifty persons from Leon county, in southern Texas, en route for Kansas. A delegation from the convention waited on these emigrants and dissuaded them from going to Kansas. They concluded to temporarily locate in one of the Red river counties until the colonization scheme was inaugurated. They said they were well treated in Leon county, and had no complaint to make against the people, but thought they could better their condition by going where there were less droughts and more certainty of making crops. This colonization scheme seems to be favorably considered by the people generally, and there seems to be no doubt about its success.
