WACO. ______ A Colored Convention Called - A Constable Fractures a Leg. Special to the Gazette. WACO, TEX., July 10 - The colored voters will hold a county convention Saturday to elect delegates to the state convention. A call has been issued and is being published in Northern newspapers papers alleged to emanate from "representative colored men of Texas for a convention of colored men at Waco, to open on Thursday, the 15th proximo." The announcement sets forth that "it is expected that each delegate will come prepared to fully represent the wants and deprivations of the constituency sending him, so that we may set forth to the people of the commonwealth of Texas a clear exposition of a clear exposition of those things that appertain to our welfare as an unfortunate race, and that we may obtain recognition in the courts of justice by the common carriers, that recognition to which all citizens are alike entitled." Mr. J. M. Belt of Hubbard City jumped from a Missouri, Kansas and Texas train in this city this morning and fractured his leg just above the ankle. Mr. Belt is constable of the Hubbard City precinct, , and was coming to Waco in charge of two colored boys whom he had arrested at Geneva, and when the train reached the city one of them attempted to escape. Mr. Belt was trying to prevent it when the accident happened. Suit was filed in the McLennan county court to-day by the Mueller furniture and carpet company of St. Louis vs. Z. C. Gathright of McGregor, on an open account of $ 323. Mr. Gathright is a furniture dealer and a sufferer in the recent fire at McGregor.
